Jennifer Staubach Gates was elected to her first term as City Council Member in 2013 to represent District 13. From serving as a Girl Scout Troop leader to serving on boards for our leading education and religious institutions – like St. Rita Catholic community and Ursuline Academy – Jennifer has been an active leader in our community for decades.
Jennifer currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Budget, Finance and Audit Committee and sits on the Public Safety as well as the Arts and Culture and Libraries Committees. She has non-profit experience overseeing annual budgets and currently serves on the Diocesan Education Endowment that grants more than $600,000 per year in education scholarships.
Jennifer also serves as the chair for the Domestic Violence Taskforce, and holds regular meetings that help to bridge communication between the Dallas Police Department, the District Attorney’s office, judges, and community partners. This collaboration aims to strengthen the forces that are fighting to end domestic violence in Dallas.
As your Councilmember, she’ll continue to lead with:
Honesty & integrity. Jennifer is committed to leading for honesty and integrity – and she’ll always be a voice for a higher ethical standard at City Hall. Because Jennifer believes that our government can never be too open, or too honest.
Attention to detail. As a Registered Nurse, I am trained that details matter. As a Councilmember, Jennifer has paid attention to the little things. From the details of our City budget to making sure our potholes are taken care of – it’s the details that make the difference.
Problem solver. Growing up in a large family, Jennifer was raised in a consensus-building environment. As your Councilmember, she’s been working hard to bring people together, get them moving behind good ideas, and get things done.
We live in a great City, but it takes the right type of leadership to make our City even better. Jennifer has the experience to continue as a leader on the Council, steering our City in the right direction.
A lifelong Dallasite, Jennifer attended Ursuline Academy, then went on to get her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio, and she is still licensed as a Registered Nurse.
Jennifer has been married to John Gates for more than 30 years. Their youngest daughter, Jordan, attends the University of Texas, and their older daughter, Jessica, and her husband, Will, live in District 13. The Gates family attends St. Rita Catholic Church in District 13, where Jennifer also serves as a Eucharistic Minister. In her spare time Jennifer enjoys running, reading and traveling, and spending time with her new grandson Gambill.
