The race to replace Ann Margolin on the Dallas City Council is going to be interesting after all.
Jennifer Staubach Gates, eldest child of Dallas Cowboys legend Roger Staubach, has decided to run for the seat representing Preston Hollow and other northern Dallas neighborhoods, she announced today.
Staubach Gates has some well-known backers of her own. They include businessman Brint Ryan, civic leader Tom Dunning and Southcross Energy chief executive David Biegler among others.
A registered nurse, she has been involved in numerous civic roles and is eager to represent District 13 on the City Council, she said.
“The city of Dallas is in our family DNA. I’ve spent decades as a volunteer in the civic community, and now I would like to use that experience and perspective to represent our community on the Dallas City Council,” she said in a prepared statement.
Staubach Gates currently serves as a board trustee for the Catholic Foundation, a member of the President Search/Transition Committee for Ursuline Academy, and a committee member for the Diocesan Education Endowment Trust, according to a press release announcing her run.
In a joint statement, her parents, Marianne and Roger Staubach, offered their support.
“We have raised our children to become involved in the community, and to take an active role in helping others, so this is just a natural step for Jennifer. We are proud of her, and we know that if elected she will work hard to do what’s best for our community and our city,” their statement read.
Bennett Glazer, chief executive of Glazer Distributing, will serve as her campaign treasurer.
Gates is married to John Gates. They have two daughters.
