Ursuline Academy now has a field of its own. A regulation-size athletic field that will be used for soccer and lacrosse covers the once-overgrown corner of its campus at Walnut Hill and Inwood.
The private, all-girl school dedicated the field Thursday, just in time for soccer season. The person for whom the field is named, Sister Margaret Ann Moser, cut the big red ribbon on a special day — her birthday.
“When you see the name of the field, just remember that hundreds of other names are also behind this,” Moser told the crowd.
The process started about 12 years ago. Neighbors objected, but the votes finally came last year. Construction started in March.
Many longtime supporters attended the dedication. Ursuline president Gretchen Z. Kane thanked them, especially the more than 100 donors who gave $3.5 million toward the costs.
Also saying a few words were Mayor Mike Rawlings; Dallas City Council member Jennifer Staubach Gates, a graduate of Ursuline; and Bishop Kevin Farrell.
